Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Allegations Connected to Player Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the league office.

The team omitted the name of Rice by name in their announcement and said they would have β€œno further comment at this time”.

The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, shared a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Currently Not on File

No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles

Rice missed the first six games of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
