Catherine's Annual Festive Carol Concert Pays Tribute to Unsung Heroes

The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Christmas carol concert at the iconic London venue, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.

The 1,600 guests will hear a selection of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as award-winning actors.

Centred Around Love and Generosity

The focus of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own measured re-emergence to public life following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to budding artists supported by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the trust, with awards contributing to instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.

Generations Gathering

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who performs on the brass instrument, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a youth community award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for community pantries.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
